the Poet Jared Christian

Poetic vignettes, reflections, & writing prompts

from a life of wandering
an internal clock tick-tock whispers the old road is calling
its winter deserts of stars and loneliness the cold north coast
valleys of rivers and wildflowers mountain peaks that line the heavens but i will not go
a new road calls and whispers this way into seasons of forgetting where i am and where i’ve been
from a life of wandering

Reflection:

Constant change is both burden and reward.

Writing Prompt:

What are the burdens and the rewards of your life?

How does a writer/poet find readers?

Should I follow the machine's maze, the game designed for us to play? Or post endlessly on social feeds that scream, “Look at me!”? Should I break the bank subscribing to every sales pitch from SAAS (Software as a Service) as my strategy for success? How does one navigate the ever changing landscape of the Internet, buried beneath walled gardens, algorithms, and AI overviews? Or should I optimize and strategize for SEO, but wait, isn't SEO dead?

Should I pay to play to be seen?

I honestly don't know.

But for now, I'll write every day. I'll fill the screen with my words until they stretch across the web, and hope you'll find them to read.

And when you do, please, share me.

parched earth for love to drink its water lost on those who drink its river

Does abundance blind the view of those without?

if i never came i'd never know what i've seen if i never leave i'll never see the rest of everything

Reflection:

After 37 years of wandering, rambling, drifting, living on well-worn trails with a view of constant change, following seasons of the sun as I age along the way, I've come to a simple conclusion. I call it my Wanderer’s Summation.

Writing Prompt:

If you sum up the knowledge and wisdom of your life experience, what summation would it be?

how deep the souls of poets bleed on sheets of white in tangled dreams nor know the endless hour be between dark of night and morning from birth of life 'til cold closed eyes a poet's poem we read

Reflection:

Poets’ and Writers’ words expose their minds, like drops of red on sheets of white.

Writing Prompt:

Make a list of six words that expose your strengths and weaknesses. Now write each word separately in a sentance to describe yourself.

the morning glow of amber red in your eyes from smoke-filled skies and last goodbyes

Reflecton:

I wrote this end of summer ‘23, while the burning West burned. Every year when show season ends, the skies are fire red. That morning included my heart.

Writing Prompt:

Write a four line story of a last goodbye. Include your heart.

i don't do these things once as if to hold or preserve a moment forever i do them i forget then live again to remember until there's nothing left that's fleeting except the rush of repeating again and again

Reflection:

I don't carry space for nostalgia, because life is now, not then.

Writing Prompt:

What makes your life more beautiful now, or greater than, then?
